The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) invests in startup companies from across the nation and around the world on behalf of DHS Operational Components to adapt, develop and harness commercially sustainable cutting-edge capabilities while simultaneously meeting the needs of DHS Operational Components and programs.
DHS Operational Components, such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) interact daily with people submitting applications to the agency for employment and immigration and travel benefits. USCIS is the federal immigration benefits-granting agency within DHS charged with making adjudicative decisions for immigration benefits. CBP is the law enforcement organization within DHS responsible for safeguarding America’s borders, protecting the public from dangerous people and materials and enhancing the Nation’s global economic competitiveness by enabling legitimate trade and travel.
Benefit and employment seekers go through a process that often starts with submitting applications in person or via a web site, depending on the significance of the benefit requested and the level of risk associated with the application types. Then the agency evaluates and prioritizes the application based on the information provided, which may then lead to an in-person interview as part of the adjudicative process.
The goal of this SVIP Engagement Event is to understand the current availability, maturity and type of Intelligent Virtual Assistant (IVA) technologies in the marketplace that can assist DHS in supporting the application adjudication processes for benefit and employment scenarios such as:
- IVA Assisted Interviewing in the USCIS Refugee/Asylee Process
- IVA Assisted Interviewing in Request for USCIS Benefits
- IVA Assisted Interviewing in CBP Hiring Processes
- IVA Assisted Interviewing of CBP Trusted Traveler Applicant
Register to attend this SVIP Engagement Event at SRI International Innovation Center (333 Ravenswood Ave in Menlo Park, CA, USA) where you will hear details about potential IVA scenarios and participate in a question and answer session with SVIP, CBP and USCIS Representatives
